Registration starts from 12.15pm
The Ogilvy Lecture in association with Ogilvy & Mather
University of Edinburgh Business School, George Square | 1pm-2pm
This annual lecture is a tribute to David Ogilvy, who went to school in Edinburgh before setting up Ogilvy & Mather New York and developing one of the biggest advertising networks in the world. His books on marketing and advertising are still highly regarded both by academics and practitioners. The David Ogilvy era on Madison Avenue is now celebrated in the Mad Men TV series.
Delivering this year's Lecture is MT Rainey, Deputy Chair of Channel 4, and an NED of Pinewood Studios, Hays plc and corporate affairs company Charlotte Street Partners. She is also Vice Chair of Creative Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Creative Industries, Co-Chair of the Development Board for WW1 Centenary arts commissioning body 14-18Now and a Board member of Glasgow School of Art Development Trust. MT was founder and CEO of top UK advertising agency Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R which is now part of the WPP group and before that spent 8 years in the U.S. as Planning Director at Chiat/Day working with Apple and other first generation Silicon Valley companies. She was Chair of digital strategy agency Think from 2008 to 2015. In 2008 she launched social enterprise horsesmouth.co.uk which is a safe online network for informal mentoring, now with over 100,000 members. She is a former Chair of the Marketing Group of Great Britain and a former President of The Thirty Club of London and is a regular speaker on communications, media and digital issues. She was recently honoured with an OBE for services to Advertising in the 2015 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
The lecture will be introduced by Fiona Gordon, Group Transformation Director, Ogilvy & Mather Group UK.
The Badger Debate
University of Edinburgh Business School, George Square | 2.30pm-3.30pm
The Badger Debate is named in memory of Kenny Harris. Kenny was one of the great characters in the marketing community and a passionate and champion debater who, with his black and white beard was affectionately known as “The Badger”. Kenny believed that debating was a key skill for marketing professionals who need to make more of an impression in the boardroom especially when challenged by MD’s and FD’s. Kenny was a great supporter of The Marketing Society and was an inspiration to many.
