One of the hardest things about being a bold marketing leader is inspiring the rest of the organisation to adopt your vision.
From the CEO to other departments and members of your marketing team, engagement is crucial.
Lord Gus O'Donnell knows a thing or two about the power of persuasion. During his tenure as a former cabinet secretary he served four very different Prime Ministers and led a civil service of 450,000 people.
Gus talked about his own leadership journey and that of the Prime Ministers he'd served. He is an avid supporter of Future- Engage- Deliver and we heard how this approach inspired and helped him throughout his time in office serving Major, Blair, Brown and Cameron.
In partnership with Accenture, this was an opportunity to study and discuss leadership at the very highest level.
Corridors of Whitehall
Gus was interviewed by honorary Marketing Society Fellow, Steve Radcliffe, who coached Lord Gus with his Future - Engage - Deliver leadership approach when he was in office. Steve drew out Gus' insights into his own leadership and that of the Prime Ministers he's served. We heard all about his experiences, challenges and stories from time walking the corridors of Whitehall - his office was 50 steps from the PM and Deputy PM, a nice balance according to Lord Gus.
Lord Gus's speech was followed by a private dinner where members asked further questions.
