Mark has extensive Olympic experience having been with the British Olympic Association since 2001, and currently holds the post of Director of Sport Services.
In April 2014, Mark was appointed Team GB’s Chef de Mission for both the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the 2015 inaugural European Games held in Baku, Azerbaijan. At the Rio Olympic Games Mark steered Team GB to their most successful performance for over a century.
Mark was selected as Chef de Mission by Chairman Lord Sebastian Coe, having amassed a wealth of multi-sport Games experience as Deputy Chef de Mission for Team GB at six Olympic Games, including London 2012, and Chef de Mission at 13 Youth Olympic Festivals.
In addition to his Chef de Mission role, Mark is responsible for driving the operational planning, financial management, and strategic overview of Team GB’s participation at all Olympic sanctioned events.
He has a first class track record of producing extraordinary results for 35 National Governing Bodies in the Olympic environment having seen outstanding and increasingly improved performances at each Games during his tenure.
Before his time with the BOA, Mark was Director of Sport and Consultancy at Greenwich Leisure Ltd, leading the company’s strategic sport framework, sport development and participation growth sector. He has also held senior development and performance roles with Sport England, Glasgow City Council and the Sports Council.
Mark has an Honours Degree in Economic History from the University of Leeds, and a Master’s Degree in Leisure and Tourism from the University of North London.
