Azeem Rafiq

Azeem Rafiq is a former professional cricketer who arrived in England from Pakistan aged ten, captained England Under- 19s — leading his country at the Under-19 World Cup — and by 2012 became the youngest player, and the first of Asian heritage, ever to captain Yorkshire County Cricket Club. He also played for Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. Behind the performance was years of racism and bullying. In 2020 he chose to speak, and in 2021 gave evidence to a UK parliamentary committee in testimony that forced one of world sport's oldest institutions into reform and reshaped the national conversation on culture and belonging. What followed tested him further: sustained public scrutiny, threats, and relocation abroad. That experience is the spine of his work today — not the controversy, but the resilience it demanded. How people hold their nerve, how teams stay honest under pressure, and how organisations protect their reputation by facing hard truths early rather than late.

Now based in the Gulf, Azeem works with boards, executive teams and sporting institutions across the region on performance cultures that can absorb pressure. He is an
