Catherine Happer is Professor of Media Sociology, Head of the Media, Culture and Society Subject Group in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Glasgow and Director of the Glasgow University Media Group (GUMG). Her work is concerned with media and public opinion, media trust and influence and she has conducted hundreds of focus groups with media audiences over a sustained period.  She is the author of books including The construction of public opinion in a digital age (Manchester University Press) and editor of Bad News on the Cost of Living Crisis (Palgrave).  She has given evidence at Westminster and Holyrood on media, broadcasting, and public understanding.  She previously worked at BBC Scotland in Audience Research and Factual programme-making.
