Board Member Interview with Ebru Tuygun

We are delighted to bring to you an interview from our new UAE board member Ebru Tuygun, Chairwoman, International Women Board of Directors.

What’s your golden rule?

Good vibes, good life!

Who has been your biggest influence?

My grandmother. In the 1940s in Adana, a city in the south of Turkey, after losing my grandfather, my grandmother had to take over his business in a male-dominated business environment. She emerged as a strong woman leader and took care of the family of 5 daughters, my mom being at the age of 8 as the youngest at that time. She was full of wisdom and inspiration, she was well respected in her community and very much visited for help and cure. Her impact and aspiration to help her community always inspired me.

What is your most hated business expression?

‘Let’s set another call to follow up’ - I think too many calls without the right objectives and impactful action plan are a waste of everyone's time. Better to shorten the calls, stay focused on the objectives and create efficiency.

What’s the smartest business idea you’ve ever had?

Finding your purpose and bringing that to life. It is a deeply personal journey that involves connecting to yourself, reflection, and exploration. It's about understanding what truly matters to you, what brings you joy and fulfilment, and how you can contribute meaningfully to the world around you. Once you've identified your purpose, bringing it to life involves aligning your actions, decisions, and goals with that purpose. This may require stepping out of your comfort zone, taking risks, and staying true to your values. By living authentically and pursuing your passion with dedication and perseverance, you can make a positive impact on both yourself and others, creating a life that is truly meaningful and fulfilling.

Which leader do you admire most and why?

Ataturk, founder of Turkish Republic and a leader who established women rights in 1930s of Turkey, way earlier than so many European countries. He transformed the country into today’s modern world in many aspects, and opened the way for women to have a job, right to vote and to be elected.

What’s your favourite word?

“Thank you” - it reflects the gratitude, kindness and appreciation in our daily conversations and builds up on positive culture.

Tell us a secret.

I was born in 7 months, I am usually impatient in life probably because I even couldn’t stay in my mom’s sack for 9 months, and ran out in 7 months:) That has actually helped me in life to accelerate and move fast!
