What’s your golden rule?
Lead with gratitude and empathy. Invest in your people and inspire them to achieve what they didn’t think was possible. Stand for growth - for the business, for yourself, and for the team.
Who has been your biggest influence?
Inspiration rather than influence, and too many to mention, but I’m inspired by those who lead with their values and chart their own course. Like many, I have over the years also been equally inspired around what not to do as much as what to do when it comes to leadership.
What’s the smartest business idea you’ve ever had?
Not a single idea, but rather a philosophy for approaching times of crises in business. An ability to pair back the complexity and allow yourself and your teams to focus on the essence of the business problem, the audience you are serving and really go back to basics to ensure you are laser focused on delivering the best outcome. By removing a lot of the ‘clutter’ during difficult times, you enable smart business ideas to come to the surface and be explored with focus.
What keeps you up at night as a marketing leader?
Usually, I have sleepless nights when I am being challenged to solve a tough business issue; but I really enjoy that, as it is then that the business creativity muscle needs to be employed. This is often a moment where I see my teams deliver what they may not have believed was possible. So I don’t mind the odd sleepless night as they often result in great achievements.
Why is being a member of the Society important for your career?
For me, it’s about the incredible connection with so many wonderful and like-minded colleagues from around the world. It is a trusted environment that allows you to draw perspective from beyond your day-to-day, and achieve a truly global outlook.
