We are delighted to bring you a Member Interview with Pete Sheath, Founder and MD, Studio 44 Media Ltd
What’s your golden rule?
Strategy first. In my line of work (strategic content creation), clients are mainly preoccupied with the wanting a *film*. Often because a competitor has one and they want one too, which is fair enough. But an asset only has impact if the right strategy has gone into its purpose, plan, production and publishing. So it has to be strategy first otherwise, what's the point?
Who has been your biggest influence?
Jesus. Show me someone who did more with less.
What is your most hated business expression?
Using the word 'right' to join sentences. It's such an ick!
What’s the smartest business idea you’ve ever had?
That would be telling 😜
Which leader do you admire most and why?
Sir Alex Ferguson. He managed one of the biggest football clubs in the world at a time when the number of responsibilities for a manager were a lot more than they are now. Yet not only did he achieve phenomenal results, he managed to make his impact span into the new era and be the model against which all other managers were measured. He wasn't perfect by any stretch, but he created a culture of excellence and profoundly connected with his players who were decades younger than him. To inspire generation after generation and to get them to consistently achieve the best results, that's inspired leadership.
What is on your mind the most right now as a marketing leader?
Does authenticity matter as much as I think (hope) it does?
Why is being part of The Marketing Society important for your career?
It represents an opportunity to see the world from many new a vantage points. It's easy to get locked into 'my way' of doing things and I'm keen to break free from that. Hoping to experience that shift as I stretch my thinking, expand my network and get inspired.
Why does marketing matter to you?
Because it's personal and every message is a conversation. I think we have a duty to make sure the conversations we're putting out there aren't one sided or one dimensional, otherwise let AI have at it and we can all change careers.
Tell us something that’s not on your CV
I would love to open a gelato shop! But I don't make gelato, I just love it. For anyone wondering: no, that's not my smartest business idea 😅
