Mike Stirling

Mike started working at DC Thomson & Co’s Dundee HQ – home of Beano – in 1997.

His first role was as Celebrity Editor on DC Thomson’s Shout Magazine, before progressing to become Deputy Editor of the UK's best-selling teen title.

In 2007, Mike moved to take editorial responsibility for DC Thomson’s iconic children’s portfolio, including Beano, The Dandy, Commando, The Broons and Oor Wullie, telling literally thousands of stories, across various audiences.

Mike successfully launched WWE Kids, Thunderbirds and 110% Gaming and played a key role in developing Jacqueline Wilson Magazine.

From 2010, as Editor-in-Chief of Beano, Mike re-established Beano as the number one Christmas Annual and grew the comic’s subscriber base by over 480%. In 2011 Mike became only the fifth Beano comic editor.

He was Creative Consultant and undertook scriptwriting on the BAFTA nominated international TV series, Dennis & Gnasher and the Emmy nominated Dennis & Gnasher Unleashed.

In July 2016, Mike became Editorial Director at Beano Studios, a creative and commercial role across publishing, digital and consumer operations, where he became heavily involved in the successful brand marketing of the World’s longest-running comic, introducing Beano to new and inclusive audiences.

Early in 2022, Mike started his dream job as Creative Director at Beano Studios, with the remit of making sure that everything Beano is as funny and mischievous as it can possibly be. In the evenings, he works alongside his friend and colleague I.P. Daley to create Beano Boomics - the smash-hit series of stories told with funny pictures.
