Owen Wyatt, Chief Growth Officer, DC Thomson Owen is a former live news broadcaster and Reuters Global Editor now Chief Growth Officer at DC Thomson whose career has been shaped and driven by a belief in the power of journalism and technology to accelerate sustainable and inclusive growth. In 2022, Owen graduated St Hughes College Oxford with an MBA, awarded a distinction for a dissertation analysing the systemic transformation required for net zero cities and has recently completed Oxford’s Leading Sustainable Organizations qualification with a score of 91%. Having previously led successful digital transformations of famous media brands including CNN International, Owen is Chief Growth Officer for DC Thomson, a privately owned, family run business with a long tradition of entrepreneurial investment and a portfolio across both private and public markets. The role of CGO connects DC Thomson’s media heritage with its powerful investments arm after Owen created a B2B media and communications division for the family whose governing purpose is to accelerate sustainable and inclusive growth. Owen also supports DC Thomson capital on series A and B investments in sustainability startups working to reverse the effects of climate change. He recently led the launch of E-FWD, an exclusive membership community of senior leaders accelerating change in the North Sea energy industry. Before taking his current role, as a Managing Director Owen led the purpose driven corporate turnaround of a former print media business, Stylist, acquired by DC Thomson in 2017. Stylist’s clear purpose is to accelerate inclusive growth by championing women. Under Owen’s management the brand drew change making attention to gender pay disparity in the UK market and championed achievement and investment in women’s sport. That clarity of purpose brought with it a digital audience of now over 3 million UK women and a business model that is led by subscription, digital marketing, and events.
