Stewart Kyasimire

MD/Director/Producer, Create Anything

Stewart Kyasimire has forged a new career path in the film industry highlighting the largely untold stories of prominent Black and mixed-race people.

Driven by an innate passion for storytelling, particularly untold stories, Stewart got his start in 2018 filming documentaries and music videos. Today he runs his own Film & TV agency, Create Anything, whose most recent documentary film “Bash the Entertainer: Behind the Smile” can be found on BBC. Stewart also created “Black & Scottish” a BAFTA-nominated BBC documentary featuring prominent Black Scots from all generations, gathering their perspectives on what it’s like to be Black and Scottish. A sister film “Black & Northern Irish” is to be released soon.

“I started my career as an artist and digital designer creating content for brands like Levi’s, Puma, Nike, BT and more. I fell in love with cinematography when I picked up my first hybrid photography/video camera. I created adverts, short films and music videos. Being a Black Scot I felt like and other and throughout my career I noticed a lack of diversity and inclusion on and off the camera here in Scotland.

Activism & Outreach

Outside of TV & Film, Stewart has played a very active and impactful role in speaking out for the BAME community. He has made numerous appearances on BBC Scotland Radio, and been a guest editor on the Friday afternoon show. He has featured on BBC Scotland's The Nine as well as hosting BBC CDX in 2020 championed by June Sarpong.

Stewart has recently been selected as an ambassador for the Scottish Documentary Institute alongside journalist Halla Mohieddeen.

“I’ve always had the core mission of telling new and untold diverse stories”

He was invited to present at the #twittervoices at home UK. Black voices virtual dinner with talented black trailblazers making a difference here in the UK.

Following Black and Scottish, he was invited to the Scottish Government to speak to civil servants from various departments including the education sector. He now advises the government on diversity and Inclusion.

During the 2020 BLM protests in Glasgow Green, Stewart was also a (standout) speaker during the rally.
