Member Interview with Dom Robertson

Dom Robertson

We are delighted to bring you a Member Interview with Dom Robertson, Managing Director RPM

What’s your golden rule?

I have two golden rules, one personal - manners are free and professionally - demand clarity and then exceed expectations.

Who has been your biggest influence?

My brother Hugh, he founded RPM and while not currently in the business his values and behaviours very much live on!

What is your most hated business expression?

Sorry you didn't win the pitch..

What’s the smartest business idea you’ve ever had?

I think as an agency and senior team, we have been smart at evolving RPM over the years around our proposition of Culture & Commerce and most specifically we invested significantly into our Retail & Commerce offering.

Which leader do you admire most and why?

Sir John Timpson, very clear set of values, committed to second-chance hiring, overall humble, people and customer focused, legend.

What is on your mind the most right now as a marketing leader?

Understanding what an MD needs to be / do given the ever changing client needs and the evolving hybrid world and what that means for the agency. I have to protect our culture, our people and ensure we are a viable business.

Why is being part of The Marketing Society important for your career?

It has always provided me with a really good client perspective on what is important both in the moment as well as keeping an eye on the future. Always loved the annual dinners!

Why does marketing matter to you?

We are lucky to work with a number of clients and their marketing teams, in doing so we get to see and work on a huge variety of challenges and opportunities all to be solved and maximised by marketing. From a personal perspective, I really enjoy understanding why our client brands should matter to a consumer and then putting a creative idea behind that reason to create an experience that changes behaviour.

Tell us something that’s not on your CV

I completed the Marathon Des Sables (MDS) in 2005 and then the HMDS in 2024 raising money for an amazing charity in Nepal - The Dusty Yak
