Jonathan Feldstein is the founder and managing director of Bennu.AI - a company developing smart waste solutions for businesses. Their flagship product - The Cube - is a smart waste bin for public spaces that sort waste automatically using AI and robotics. Prior to founding his company, Jonathan researched in institutes around the globe including Caltech, where he developed control software for NASA, and ETH Zürich, where he researched on quantum transistors for next-gen computers. His research career culminated in a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, where he developed AI models that are particularly suited for settings where only small amounts of data are available, such as medical AI.

People learn and change behaviours because their actions have positive or negative consequences, which is why there is a hope that the “market” and “society” will regulate itself and fix climate change. However, for this system to work, the cost of a positive action needs to be lower than the pain experienced from not taking this action, and the delay between action and consequence needs to be short, as humans are notoriously bad at delaying gratification. In this talk, Jonathan discusses how businesses can short-circuit the reward cycle through technology and business models so that positive actions can play into the human preference for instant reward.
